Chicago CincOH 5th · Pilot Testers
Getting started with the app
Thanks for helping us test! Follow these steps to get set up before the event.
What we're testing
This app is designed to help tango travelers:
- Find someone to share a ride with, when you're traveling at the same time.
- Find someone to share a hotel room or Airbnb.
- Find a local host, or host a visiting dancer.
- Find a partner to register for an event that requires couples registration.
For this pilot:
Our main focus is testing ride sharing, so we'd love for everyone to try creating rides, finding travel companions, and sending requests.
You can also explore room sharing if you'd like, although we'll mostly be pretending, since most of you have probably already arranged your accommodations for this event!
The hosting and registration partner features are part of our roadmap, but they're not implemented yet in this pilot. You may see hosting-related screens or buttons, but be aware that these are not connected to our database yet.
Getting set up
Requires an iOS device (iPhone).
1
Go to the app & log in
Open the app using the link and credentials that you received by email. You can reset your password right away, by going to the hamburger menu, then under "Personal Info."
2
Bookmark it on your phone
Tap Share, then "Add to Home Screen", then confirm. After that, it will pretty much look and feel like a native app. Note: this only works with Safari, not Chrome.
3
Join the CincOH event
Tap the "Create New Trip" button, locate "CincOH", and tap on it.
4
Enter your ride from the airport to the venue
In the "My Trips" screen, tap the + button at the bottom of the screen, and select "Find Ride". Enter the details for your ride, for example O'Hare Airport → Epiphany Center for the Arts, along with the date and time.
Time means the time you could be ready to leave, not your flight arrival time. For example, if your flight lands at 3:00 PM and you expect to be ready to leave the airport around 3:15 PM, enter 3:15 PM for Time and select "Leave at or Later" for Timing.
This tells other riders: "I can leave anytime from 3:15 PM onward."
At any time you can check here, the app will show you which other attendees are looking for a ride around the same time. You can invite them to share a Taxi/Uber, or you may receive an invitation. Invitations also show in your activity menu — the rightmost option in the bottom bar of the "My Trips" screen.

5
Create your return ride
Same process to enter your ride. Discover and coordinate with other people going to the airport around the same time.
For this ride, "Arrive By" is probably the right choice for Timing, since you'll usually want to arrive at the airport by a certain time rather than leave at a certain time.

6
Add your Facebook profile link
Go to the Facebook app, go to your Profile, go to the 3 dots icon in the upper right corner, locate "Copy profile link", and click it. Then in this app, go to your account settings, open "Personal Info", and paste the link to your Facebook profile. When you match with someone for a ride or a room, you can check each other's Facebook profile before deciding whether to connect. If you need to communicate, you can also message each other through Facebook Messenger.
7
Create a room share (optional)
In the "My Trips" screen, tap the + button and select "Offer a room share". Enter the details there.
"Offer a Room Share" is for when you've already booked a room and are looking for someone to share it with.
"Find a Room" is for when you haven't booked a room yet and are looking for someone to book one with together.

8
Or join a room share (optional)
In the "My Trips" screen, tap the + button and select "Find a room". Enter your dates there. You'll see people who have a room to share at the same time. You'll also see other people looking to share a room.
9
Look someone up on Facebook
If you see someone who you could share a room or ride with, click on their name and you should see a button that takes you to their profile page on FB.
You're all set!
Update your travel status as you go on the day you are traveling, under the upcoming ride's details screen. And message Isabelle if you have any questions.
